Operation Nightwatch is an ecumenical ministry that has been offering hospitality, hope, and healing to the street population of downtown Portland since 1981. Whereas other agencies exist to provide services such as housing, food and clothing, Operation Nightwatch recognizes that the homeless also suffer from social isolation, and has as its simple ideal to offer respect, dignity, and friendship. ONW seeks to bring community and hospitality through service and relationships to those that are in need.
Operation Nightwatch currently has two centers, with volunteer options at both locations. Volunteers must transport themselves, and are additionally asked to sign up on the Operation Nightwatch main page, found in the link below. Additional opportunities for service include supply pickup, fundraising events, shower cart volunteers, and internships.
