Do you live, work or play near the Columbia Slough? Join the Columbia Slough Watershed Council for Slough 101 on Saturday, April 6th, 2019 from 9AM - 1PM.

Ever wonder about the slow-moving water running through N & NE Portland?

This free, hands-on workshop will provide participants with a wide overview of the Columbia Slough's relationship to environmental, social, and economic issues in the watershed (North/Northeast Portland and Gresham). We will explore a variety of topics, including:
● Geologic characteristics and history
● Economic impacts
● Indigenous perspective of the Slough and its natural resources
● Flood protection initiatives
● Groundwater resources
● Current environmental challenges and restoration projects

Hands-on activities include:
  • Study macroinvertebrates (water bugs) that live in the Slough.
  • Test for water quality by assessing oxygen, temperature, and pH levels.
  • Simulate and predict aquifer conditions with an interactive groundwater model.
  • Discover a beautiful hidden part of this unique waterway on a walking tour.
